News & Notes

Personal contact, coordination key to membership growth

Personal contact is the key to attracting and retaining new members for our club.  That is the consensus of our members following a discussion about how we can focus our efforts on growing and sustaining membership.

John Paddock suggested creating a model for how we invite members, which would include identifying the person, identifying a mentor and providing that prospective member with some basic information about Rotary.

Building on that process, it was also suggested that we identify and assign an existing member as  mentor to all  new members.  This should help new members feel a part of the club sooner.

Another suggestion is that we continue to work together with the evening club in some capacity to attract members.  Despite the fact that we are two separate clubs, the suggestion was made that if prospective members knew that we are all working toward the same goal, it would lead to membership growth in both clubs.

The first step, however, is having a formal process for membership and retention so that we know how to initiate and orient new members to our club.

Father’s Day Lawnmower Raffle Ticket sales

The Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast is right around the corner and that means its time to start selling lawnmower raffle tickets.

This year we will again be raffling a 42” John Deere lawn tractor from Bobbbett Implement or, $1,000.00 cash, at the winner’s election

The lawnmower raffle is one of our primary fund-raisers that we rely on to fund our service projects.  John Paddock has placed a sandwich board and cash/donation box at the P&C to facilitate sales.

The current manager, Clayton, has also agreed to let us store the donation box and a few Rotary hats/aprons behind the service desk.  The sandwich board is in the main lobby between a pallet of bottled water and an ATM cash machine.

If you have tickets to sell, you can bring those, or contact Daryle for more to sell.

Remember, the ticket sales are ALL our responsibility.  Please carve out a few hours of your time between now and the breakfast to sit at the P&C and sell.

Mark your calendar to help with Pancake Breakfast set up

In addition to our lawnmower raffle, we also need to continue to assist with the Pancake Breakfast itself.  Please mark your calendars for the Pancake Breakfast as follows:

6/13 Friday 8-10AM to set up the grills and tables/chairs;

6/14 Saturday 8-10AM to clean/test the grills and dress the tables;

6/15 Sunday 7AM-2PM for the breakfast and cleanup;

6/16 Monday 8-10AM for breakdown and storage.

Remember, the evening club was more than gracious in helping us make Winterfest a big success.  Lets repay the favor with our best turnout ever.  This event only works if every Rotarian makes a full commitment and benefits ALL Skaneateles Rotarians!
