Carranti: The benefits of Orthopedic Massage
Massage provides more than just the casual luxury of
relaxation. So says Jim Carranti,
a Licensed Massage Therapist who maintains an office at 1416 East Genesee
Street and another in Dewitt.
Among the many benefits of massage include relaxing
muscle contractions, spasms, and general body tension, improving circulation,
hastening the elimination of toxins, overcoming muscle fatigue, improving
muscle tone, lessening imflammation and alleviating pain.
Orthopedic massage, in which Jim specializes, differs
from spa massages commonly offered in places like Mirbeau. Spa treatment is generalized and
offered primarily for the purpose of relaxation. Orthopedic massage is usually offered to those who have
recently suffered an injury or are suffering from chronic pain of some
sort. The goal of the Orthopedic
massage is to interrupt this pain cycle.
His techniques relax and stretch the muscles to help them heal.
His therapies are covered under Workers Comp and No
Fault, but are not covered under traditional insurance plans because it is
considered ‘alternative medicine.’
This prevents many from considering it as an option, Jim says.
Jim was a biology major in college but decided to pursue
his career in Orthopedic massage before finishing. He spent 13 months of intensive training at the Onondaga
School of Massage learning every muscle, joint, bone, nerve and the pathology
of different injuries. He has also
attended seminar training with a massage therapist who formerly worked for the
Yankees.

Syracuse
City Rotary drafting Club support for B-ball tourney
Carol Bildstein of the Syracuse Inner City Rotary Club
visited our club this week seeking our club’s support for its annual Hoops for
Peace basketball tournament.
Hoops for Peace was founded three years ago as part of an
effort to improve graduation rates among city youth. The event partners with Syracuse University and the Hamilton
Street Boys & Girls Club. Boys
and Girls ages 11 to 15 are eligible to participate. Teams compete in games from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday
from March 1 and April 5. The
final four games are held at Manley Field House and on April 8, all participants
are invited to participate in an end of the year ceremony at Hendricks Chapel.
The Syracuse club is looking for Rotarians to set aside
one Saturday to come and cheer on
the kids.
For more information, contact Rachel Gazdick at 374-8860
or ragazdic@syr.edu.
