Slate
of officers to be elected
We
concluded a successful 2007 for our small club and are looking ahead to
continuing our progress and growing in the coming year!
Today’s
meeting is the Club Assembly.
According to the By-Laws, we were supposed to have an annual meeting in
the first week in December at which we were to have selected officers and directors.
At our last meeting we did manage to approve the by-laws, however we did not
formally elect the officers for the coming year.
At
this week’s meeting, we will vote on the slate of officers for the coming
year: John Rooney has agreed to be
president-elect, Toni Feldmann has agreed to continue her successful run as
treasurer and John Paddock has agreed to take over the Secretary duties from
John Rooney.
Toni
has also asked if someone can step forward and take over the Program Chair
duties for the coming year.
New
member proposed:
Sydney
Beckwith
Sidney Beckwith has formally
applied for and been proposed for membership in our club by Marion
Krauter. Many of us had a chance
to meet Sydney last year when she attended several of our meetings.
Sydney worked for many years as Administrator of
Special Programs in the Union Springs School District before retiring last
year. Sidney founded
Wellsprings Leadership Camp in Union Springs and was recognized nationally for
a reading program she developed in Union Springs schools. Among her many accomplishments,
Sidney is also a 1998 graduate of Leadership Cayuga.
The
Board will vote on accepting Sydney’s membership at its January meeting.
January: Rotary Awareness month
January is the month that we put an extra focus on
putting Rotary in the public eye with a additional press releases,
maintaining contract with the local media, AND a time when WE ALL
should focus on telling our friends and colleagues about the good works of
Rotary and OF our club. We have much to be proud of and to share,
and most importantly, much to offer potential Rotarians.
Remove the basket from over the Rotary candle, and let it
shine!
Timeline
– 1978, Rotary creates 3-H grants to improve health
In Tokyo, Japan, the RI annual convention records 39,834
registrants. That same year, Rotary creates Health, Hunger and Humanity (3-H)
Grants to improve health, alleviate hunger, and enhance human and social
development in communities throughout the world; it is Rotary's most comprehensive
humanitarian program to date. In 1979, the first 3-H project committed Rotary
to provide and help deliver polio vaccine to six million children in the
Philippines for five years, laying the foundation for PolioPlus in 1985.
