News & Notes

Ohl encourages modernization, consolidation of local government

Clyde Ohl discussed the importance of modernizing government in New York at the December 13, 2007 meeting.
Mr. Ohl is a former Superintendent of Schools in West Genesee and a former mayor of the Village of Camillus.   He has been working with the Sustainable Design Assessment Team to increase awareness and interest in modernizing government and consolidating government services, where possible.
The present government is based on a system which was a part of an agricultural economy, according to Mr. Ohl.  It required many small towns with individual services.  The group questions whether this is still necessary and suggests that we spend too much time and money trying to run so many local offices and services.
Modernizing government would be an important step toward government efficiency which, it is believed, will lead to the attraction of businesses and individuals and the retention of those who already live and work here.
Mr. Ohl’s slide show can be viewed at www.syracuse2020.org/Portals/2/about.pps.
