Winterfest
Winterfest Winterfest!
By now it should be no secret to all of us that
we need sponsorships for Winterfest.
Following a brief presentation on the budget by
Treasurer Toni Feldman, it is apparent that if we are going to continue to with
our many service projects we need to devote our energy to bringing money in.
Clearly, our club values service over
fund-raising. However, there is
simply no other way to provide the valuable service that we offer than to have
fund-raisers. Obviously, the more
money we raise in one event, the less pressure we have to raise money the
balance of the year.
Based on last year’s success, it appears we have
reached the point where Winterfest is an established part of Skaneateles’
Winter schedule. The craft fair
will again fill the Community center with 17 crafters – nearly half
capacity -- already signed up. The
basketball performers will be back as will the dog sled team and many other
activities at the Community Center.
New this year, the Cub Scouts will be present as a pack and the Early
Acters will be putting on a quasi-winter carnival to raise money for their water/service
project. Downtown, the Chili CookOff
is still on, as is the Brewfest.
With so many new and returning activities,
convincing the community to provide sponsorship dollars should not be
difficult, BUT WE HAVE TO ASK!
While many merchants are deep in the throes of Dickens, there are many other
potential sponsors who are not involved with that event in any way.
So far, we have few, if any sponsors signed up
with just six weeks until til the big event. As I have said in this space many times before, the more we
raise now, the less we have to raise later! I think all of us would welcome having this be the sole
fund-raiser of the year.
December
is Family Month
Friendship was the foundation, the rock on which Rotary
service was built. Rotary clubs
are encourage to care for Rotarians, their families and members of the larger
Rotary family, thereby strengthening clubs and instilling a sense of integrity,
tolerance and unselfishness in the next generation. Specifically, the Family of
Rotary is:
Rotarians’ family
members
¨
Spouses,
Widows and Widowers
¨
Children
and Grandchildren
¨
Other
relatives
The larger Rotary
family
¨
Our
neighbors in other clubs and districts around the world
¨
Our
Foundation and its alumni
¨
Youth
Exchange students, Group Study Exchange members
¨
Rotaractors,
Interactors, Early Actors, RYLA participants
¨
Global
Networking Groups (Rotary Fellowships & Rotarian Action Groups)
Supporting the
Family of Rotary is of critical importance because it:
¨
Builds
lifelong friendships
¨
Enhances
our personal families’ relationships
¨
Builds
world understanding and peace
¨
Improves
international solidarity and tolerance
¨
Contributes
to membership growth
