News & Notes

Duck Race Dates discussed

At our Club  Assembly October 4, Club Members, along with Visitarians: Ward Vuillemot and John Hennessy, discussed possible dates for the proposed Duck Race fund-raiser.

Ward advised that he has contacted Baldwinsville’s Rotary Club and they have ducks available to rent but that we ought to secure a date early so that they are not spoken for.

After a brief discussion, we settled on three possible dates: Memorial Day; the Antique Boat Show weekend and the Curbstone Festival weekend.   We are seeking input from club members so please let Marion know if you have any thoughts or ideas.

A location still needs to be determined for the race. Previously we have discussed using the Outlet and collecting the Ducks at the Creekside, pending permission from Erika Davis.  One suggestion was to piggy back this event with the Historical Society’s effort to build a boat museum. Under that scenario, the ducks could be dumped in at the historical society, travel under the bridge and be picked up behind the Creekside. Another suggestion was to see if the pools at the Rec. Center could be used in some way, perhaps by having the water current swirled in some way and setting up a maze of sorts.

If anyone has any further ideas or interest in taking a more active role in planning the race, please let Marion know.  We will discuss this again at the next Club Assembly.

October: Vocational Service Month

Every October, Rotarians are encouraged to focus on vocational service. Rotarians are urged to discuss The Four-Way Test and the Declaration of Rotarians in Businesses and Professions.

This special month is a great opportunity to begin planning vocational activities for the entire year, including awards programs and community projects.
