Focus on Fundraising

After reviewing the budget at August’s Club Assembly, the consensus is clear – we need to refocus on our fund-raising activities to ensure that we can accomplish all of the exciting service project ideas club members have.

With the decision to put off the Restaurant Guide for at least one year, it is clear that we as a club need to explore ideas for successfully raising more funds to support all of our grand ideas.  The real question is whether we should focus more energy into increasing the potential of Winterfest or develop a second fund-raiser to supplement our coffers.

One suggestion was to designate the Club Assembly meeting to focus on growth and financial issues for the near future.

Special thanks to Treasurer Toni Feldman for all of her hard work in preparing the budget and providing such a clear presentation.

The 4-Way Test

From the earliest days of the organization, Rotarians were concerned with promoting high ethical standards in their professional lives. One of the world's most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics is The 4-Way Test, which was created in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor when he was asked to take charge of a company that was facing bankruptcy. This 24-word test for employees to follow in their business and professional lives became the guide for sales, production, advertising, and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company is credited to this simple philosophy. Herbert Taylor became President of Rotary International and the 4-Way Test was adopted by Rotary in 1943.   The 4-Way Test has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways, in communities, schools, workplaces and in homes.  It asks the following four questions:

“Of the things we think, say or do:

1.    Is it the TRUTH?

2.    Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3.    Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4.    Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”
