News & Notes

New Generations Month

As many of you may have already read in The Rotarian, September is New Generations month.  Rotary clubs are encouraged to work with Interact, Rotaract, and Youth Exchange chairs to organize projects that focus on career development and to recognize outstanding club projects benefiting youth.

GSE Host families needed

The Group Study Exchange (GSE) program of The Rotary Foundation is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for young business and professional men and women between the ages of 25 and 40 and in the early years of their professional lives. The program provides travel grants for teams to exchange visits between paired areas in different countries.

For four to six weeks, team members experience the host country's institutions and ways of life, observe their own vocations as practiced abroad, develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas.
For each team member, The Rotary Foundation provides the most economical round-trip air ticket between the home and host countries. Local Rotarians in the host area provide for meals, lodging, and group travel within their district.
This year’s inbound team will be from District 3200 of Southern India.
The Team will be in the south-western region of our district between; Friday, October 12th through Tuesday, October 16th.  If you would can host a team member for that period, please contact Michele Tarnow at: 685-9007 or by e-mail at   matarnow@maxwell.syr.edu
For more information on the GSE team and its members, visit the District GSE webpage at: http://www.rotarydistrict7150.org/GSE-07_India.htm

Rotary Timeline – 1910

At 16 clubs and 1,800 members, Rotary is rapidly expanding throughout the United States.

The “National Association of Rotary Clubs of America” holds its first convention in Chicago, where it elects Paul P. Harris president.

But this association does not remain “national” for long; in November, the Rotary Club of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, forms and within two years becomes the first Rotary club officially chartered outside of the U.S., transforming Rotary into an international organization of clubs.
