Program: Another wonderful Christmas Basket
Dinner Fundraiser at the Skaneateles Country Club put on by Jack Hyatt, Robin Jowaisas,
Todd, May, Steven Schwartz, Timer Whittingham and
Dale Zabel.
What an effort! See Robin’s brief recap below in the newsletter. We are hopeful
and expecting this will be our most successful dinner ever.
This Week’s
Program: Our “Club” Holiday dinner including
spouses, friends, and family members. It’s a great meal and a fun time so put
it on your calendar!
Next Two
Weeks
are “Bye” weeks, more notably known as Christmas and New Years. Our next get
together will be January 8th. There will be a board meeting at 5
p.m. followed by a Club assembly dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. Rotary members
only.
Benediction
& Atonement: Karen Elizabeth Ververka will grace us with season specific comments
sure to be heartfelt and meaningful, just as her last invocation proved to be.
Atonement will take a break until 2009, but we may have a Happy Holiday $$$ Plate
Pass.
Update: Very
short Stand Up Board Meeting
immediately after our dinner meeting concludes. The board has been asked to
readdress Christmas Basket revenues to include something for the Salvation
Army. It may or may not alter our 11.20 board funds disbursement decision (see
meeting “draft” notes, #9). Todd May will have a brief, succinct
motion that we should be able to give a hands up or hands down on in under two
minutes; the board’s “Two Minute Drill.” December Birthdays: Gregg (2nd), Jowaisas (5th),

News &
Notices
Christmas Fund Raiser Results:
While we don’t yet have the final
financials, it appears we did quite well at last week’s Christmas benefit at
the Country Club despite the tough economic conditions. The early tally is that
attendance was a bit shy of the record attendance last year but that our net
proceeds should come close to matching the roughly $7,000 generated last year.
Thanks go to the organizing Committee and all the Rotarians that participated
with their attendance and/or their generosity. More will follow on the results
when they are finalized.

Rotary District 7150 - Books
for the World …. Ward Vuillemot
Improving literacy in the World - A
collaborative effort between Rotary Clubs, their affiliated youth clubs, and
other community and service organizations to provide surplus children’s K - 6th
grade picture/story and textbooks to regions in the world that are in need of
these materials to create opportunities for a better way of life. The initial focus and book shipments
will go to the Rotary District 9300 Distribution Center in Johannesburg,
Republic of South Africa to be distributed to countries in the southern regions
of Africa, where English is one of the primary business languages.
The “District 7150 Books for the
World” committee provides each participating club(s) with general book types
and descriptions, packing materials (at cost) along with instructions and
delivery information to a central marshaling warehouse location in CNY (Lasertransit).
As boxed books are received they will be weighed, palletized and wrapped
for shipment to Rotary Books for the World located in Houston, Texas. In
Houston they will be combined and containerized with other donated books and
shipped to the District 9300 Distribution Center in Johannesburg, Republic of
South Africa.
Currently there are a number of
clubs and organizations participating at various levels, including; a half dozen Rotary clubs, 2 Interact clubs, a RotoKid club, 2 churches, a professional organization, two
transportation companies and a literacy material publishers. And list grows daily.
Where are these books currently
hiding? - Closets, book shelves, storage areas of homes, libraries, schools and
churches, all looking for a home and children to read, learn from, love and
cherish them. By combining our
resources, we have given these books a fresh start, and making a significant
difference in the lives of the children of the world.
How can you help? – Contact
Doug Rutan, Club Service Projects chair, and let him
know you are interested in participating in/or organizing a club committee to
support this effort. To
participate at a district wide level, contact Ward. OR, bring in, or contact Skaneateles Interact club, through
Karen Price, if you have books to contribute.

project, go to its website at: http://www.d7150booksfortheworld.org/
Every LITTLE book makes a BIG deference to some child in the world!
