November 20th Attendance & Missing Faces: There were “30“Rotarians at last
week’s meeting (attendance 60%). Missing: Adams, Conole, Emmer, Gregg, Keefe, Moody,
Poppa, Priest, Rademacher, Renner, Roche, Shannon, Tarnow, Weaver, Whalen,
Williams, Wisner, Zabel.
Of Particular Note: Fifty year Rotarian Bunt
Osborne spent a couple of nights in the hospital this past week, but made
it to his dining room table in plenty of time for Thanksgiving dinner; not to
mention “feeling good as well!”
Last Week’s Program: Gurnek Singh gave
a great overview of what it’s like to be from India, see snow for the first
time, settle and make a home in Syracuse and become head librarian at SU. Very
entertaining and a unique perspective on many things we “more locals” would
take for granted.
This Week’s Program: Linda Roche takes
an educated look at Skaneateles real estate, where it’s headed and timing
during the current economic downturn. Linda is surely the most respected, well
known expert in the area and will share her perspectives, outlook, and
suggestions for buying or selling in 2009 and beyond.
Benediction & Atonement: Dick Kokosa will
again be on deck with his “secular” version of an invocation this Thursday. We
were sure surprised and wonderfully entertained by Skip Plank’s beautiful & moving audios from the Library of
Congress directly to our Sherwood Inn dining room. What a creative and thoughtful change of venue Skip took the time to present for us. It even included a dress rehearsal
earlier that afternoon to get it down pat. That alone must have had Sherwood guests and employees
wondering just who was coming to dinner! For our “happy $$” this week Sue Keefe will corral an accomplice to collect our Thanksgiving
remembrances and $$$$$.
Next Week’s Program: On Thursday, December 11, at the Skaneateles Country Club is
our annual fundraising Christmas Basket
Dinner. A command performance
and keystone Skaneateles holiday event! Come with a friend or two, your money,
have a few libations and a great time. At this festive dinner “happening” Skaneateles Rotary is
responsible for raising substantial funds which help local
families less fortunate than we & doing so in a celebrative
atmosphere with friends. Be
there!
Update: No
December board meeting. Our next Board meeting & Club assembly will be

chair people candidates will be voted on at that time.

CHRISTMAS
FUND RAISER DEC. 11:
The Skaneateles Rotary Club’s annual Christmas Fund Raiser will be held
on Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Skaneateles Country Club. We will begin with a happy hour at 6 PM
followed by a family style turkey dinner at 7 PM.
As in years past, the dinner will be followed by the traditional raffle of
prizes donated by local businesses and professionals as well as by Rotarians. The raffle with its single
ticket donation is how we raise the funds needed by the local Outreach Office
and the Skaneateles and Spafford Food Pantries for their Christmas gift and
dinner programs for the area’s needy.
Each Rotarian is asked to please begin planning for this wonderful event by
lining up friends, business associates, golfing buddies, neighbors, etc. to
invite for Dec. 11. Last year
there were 176 of us attending and the goal is to increase attendance this year
to 200. For those Rotarians who will
be unable to attend, please consider making a donation and/or contributing a
prize such as a bottle of wine for the raffle.
Jack Hyatt is in charge of tickets and he is once again encouraging
Rotarians individually or in partnership with another Rotarian to put together
an eight or ten person table of guests. Jack and the other committee members (Todd May, Steve
Schwartz, Dale Zabel, Timer Whittingham, Jim Gregg, Robin Jowaisas)
will be at upcoming meetings to provide additional information, to answer any
questions and most importantly to reserve a ticket for each Rotarian and
her/his guests. Finally, Rotarians
who are hosting tables are reminded to bring their own carving utensils to deal
with the “bird”.
