News & Notices
Recoveries:
Dick Kokosa is recovering well from
surgery and will be attending our board meeting this week.
Jack Priest is likewise doing well and
we can be hopeful of his return shortly.
Peter and Ruth
Anderson have been under the weather recently causing them to miss
last week’s program at the high school. As of this writing it’s my
understanding Ruth has been hospitalized. We can hope all is improving at his
point.
Some
great news from the Overstrom
household, Marian is now
recuperating at home and on “Recovery Road”! She is now taking calls and
expresses sincerest gratitude for all of the cards, notes and caring she has
been receiving. Am sure she’d enjoy a phone call at this point to say “hi.”
WINTERFEST 2009: Our sister club’s president, Tom Seeley will be at our dinner and Assembly Meeting this Thursday
to outline his club’s plans for the 2009 version of Winterfest. As their group assists us with our Pancake Breakfast
and Holiday Dinner, they are again counting on our help with their main
fundraiser. Tom will outline the date, agenda of events and outline how we can
help out.
DATE TO PUT ON THE CALENDAR! Our annual Holiday Turkey
Dinner at Skaneateles Country Club is swiftly approaching. The date is
Thursday, December 11 and a command performance; a most important fundraiser we
all need to commit to supporting in person. Todd, Robin and Jack will be
providing an update and function progress at this week’s assembly session.
Put
it on your agenda, bring a friend, and provide a raffle gift; as they say ….. Be there or be square.
“BOOKS FOR THE WORLD”
– is on a roll: Ward Vuillemot reports that Rotary District #7150 and its
affiliated clubs are seeking help with their “textbook” drive. To learn more
and/or help with this effort contact Ward directly, go to the district’s
website or http://web.me.com/ward37/Books FTW/Home.html
Christmas Fund Raiser Dec. 11: The Skaneateles Rotary Club’s annual Christmas Fund Raiser
will be held on Thursday Dec. 11 at the Skaneateles Country Club. We will begin
with a happy hour at 6 PM followed by a family style turkey dinner at 7PM and
once again we will be entertained by the Nick Palumbo Quartet.
Tickets this year are $25 to cover the cost of the dinner and entertainment.
As in years past, the dinner will be followed
by the traditional raffle of prizes donated by local businesses and
professionals as well as by Rotarians. The raffle with its single ticket
donation is how we raise the funds needed by the local Outreach Office and the
Skaneateles and Spafford Food Pantries for their Christmas gift and dinner
programs for the area’s needy. This year the expectation is that the number of
needy families will be greater than ever.
Each Rotarian is asked to please begin planning
for this wonderful event by lining up friends, business associates, golfing
buddies, neighbors, etc. to invite for Dec. 11. Last year there were 176 of us
enjoying the ambiance and great food at the Club, the camaraderie of guests and
fellow Rotarians, and especially the warm positive emotion of helping others
during the Christmas season. We raised over $7,000!
Jack
Hyatt is in charge of tickets and he is once again encouraging Rotarians
individually or in partnership with another Rotarian to put together an eight
or ten person table of guests. The goal this year is to increase participation by
15% to 200 people. Jack and the other committee members (Todd May, Steve Schwartz, Dale Zabel,
Timer Whittingham, Jim Gregg & yours truly) will be at upcoming
meetings to provide additional information, to answer any questions and most
importantly to reserve a ticket for each Rotarian and her/his guests.
