News and Notices:

OUR ANNUAL ROTARY PICNIC “This Thursday”:  Our Annual Rotary Picnic will be held Thursday 9/11 (a very tragic and memorable date) at Lourde’s Camp.  The history of the picnic has not been very well documented.  Jim Messenger, Dana Coye, Jack Hyatt and Lee Overstrom agree that originally (maybe back to the 50’s) the picnic was held at various Rotarian’s houses and summer homes.  The burgers, hot dogs, appetizers and desserts were all prepared by Rotarians and their wives.

In the late 80’s or early 90’s the picnic moved to Lourde’s Camp.  Jack Hyatt remembers cooking burgers and hot dogs at Lourde’s.  However, since at least 1991 Bob’s BBQ has been catering the event, and to the best of my knowledge they have catered the picnic ever since.

The Picnic and the Pancake Breakfast became associated when it was suggested that we use the picnic as a way to thank the non-Rotarian volunteers for their help at the breakfast.  Originally, this was pretty much limited to the Volunteer Firemen whom supervised the outside parking.  Now Robin Jowaisis sends a written invitation to all non- Rotarian volunteers and hence the “Annual Rotary Pancake Breakfast Appreciation Picnic” was born.  See you Thursday.

                                                      Timer

PANCAKE BREAKFAST VOLUNTEER THANK YOU PICNIC:  This year’s picnic will be on September 11 at Lourdes Camp and once again Karen Price and Timer Whittingham will be chairing the event. All volunteers who worked the breakfast as well as all Rotarians are invited for a happy hour beginning at 6PM followed by a chicken dinner at 7PM.  As in the past, Rotarians whose last names begin with the letters A-M are requested to bring an hors d’oeuvre and those Rotarians with last names N-Z are asked to bring a dessert.  Reservations are required for a dinner count so a sign up sheet will be circulated at the next several Rotary meetings.  Also, invitations have been sent out to the many volunteers who are not Rotary family members and the expectation is that Rotarians will personally invite their spouses/partners and family members.  Timer is in charge of the dinner count so please RSVP to him if you can’t sign up at a meeting. Lastly, Rotarians are requested to pay ($12) for their spouses while family member guests and non-Rotarian volunteer guests are on the club.
