 News and Notices:

MEETING PARTICIPANTS AND ATTENDANCE:

Timer Whittingham, Todd May and Brad McClennan, normally the “missing faces of summer,” often found driving off of tees, raking sand, pulling irons from bags or just puttering around graced us with their presence. Could it have been the weather; of course not.

Tara Renner, after a lengthy hiatus of being engaged with other pressures is back.

Good to see you all!

SPEAKERS PROGRAM:   Dirk Young of Twin Birch Dairy gave an informative and fascinating presentation on the workings his 3rd generation, state of the art dairy farm here in Skaneateles. He described many technological improvements to his business such as an energy conserving “digester”. He outlined some new and serious issues facing the industry going forward into this century. Dirk, was gracious enough to answer questions well after most of us had departed.

If you have an idea or know of someone who would have an interesting story to tell or message to relay please contact Skip Plank, our program chairman.

This week, Larry Calabrese and Jim Gascon, our DG & ADG will be visiting and presenting Rotary’s new 2008 – 2009 initiative. Normally a “Club Assembly” evening, we’ll dispense with some of our traditional meeting practices to visit and hear their message.

Please look for a special email Dick Kokosa is sending extending an invitation for all spouses to join us for this evening. Annabelle Calabrese will be joining Larry and we have asked Jim to bring his wife also. We’re hoping to provide a unique look at what Rotary is, stands for and tries to accomplish.

DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY:    The Skantarian is our club’s “newsletter” and can gladly be used for and by all of us to convey news and messages about our club, its activities and our members.  If you have anything noteworthy to mention about activities or interesting news regarding your family, other club members, anything you believe we’d be interested in learning about, please write.  A fishing trip, new arrival of grandchild, great family vacation, a thank you for something, you name & write it.  Send in your “goings on” to Pam Hares (phh@mlsattorneys.com) or John Shannon (jms@mlsattorneys.com) and it will be printed here.

A BANNER YEAR FOR ROTARY FOUNDATION GIVING!  Please accept my thanks and appreciation to both the members and board of the Skaneateles Club for the tremendous support that they have given to the Rotary Foundation and it’s many life saving and life changing humanitarian, health and education programs around the world.  In the Rotary year 2007-08, the club and members pledged $5,300 dollars for the Annual Fund, and exceeded that goal by giving $5,600. Added to that were $500 given for PolioPlus and to other designated grants.   This simply could have not been accomplished without the generosity of many.  Now, that’s Service Above Self.  We now turn our attention to 2008-09 to achieve an even more ambitious goal of $6,000.  Way to go Skantarians!
