News and Notices:
Marian Overstrom on the Mend - According
to the Overstrom family Marian is doing well and on
the road to recovery. She is enjoying the many cards, notes and thoughts from
her many friends.
Club Directory Photos: During our next two meetings, July
24 and July 31, Lori and Ward will be taking photos for our next directory.
Each will have their camera ready, handy and waiting. If friends don’t
recognize your photo any more, if it’s only a bit “out of date” or maybe not as
flattering as you’d wish, step up with a grin up and get a new one for the ’08
– ’09 directory!

Record Profits for the Pancake Breakfast! We now have the final results for last month’s Pancake
Breakfast and despite significantly increased food costs our profit will be $12,734 which is up $348 above last year’s record profit. In
net we did much better than expected and every Rotarian deserves a strong pat
on the back. Special accolades go to Lee Overstrom our ticket sales chair and
all those Rotarians who put in the extra effort on the pre-sale of tickets as
revenues from advanced ticket sales at $10,896 were up $1,243 over last year.
Well done Rotarians, we can be proud! Robin

Rotary's Peace Corps Connection.... Sandra Swanson, The Rotarian
As an
honorary Rotarian, U.S. President John F. Kennedy knew a thing or two about
“Service Above Self”. No wonder the spirit of Rotary’s motto is also embodied
by the Peace Corps, which Kennedy established in 1961.
But the Peace Corps and Rotary International are
more than that. Together, these organizations advocate service beyond U.S.
borders – a common thread that’s prompted many global-minded folks to
devote years of their lives to both groups. Shake hands with a former Peace
Corps volunteer, and there’s a good chance you’ve just met a Rotarian too.
That’s because the desire to work around the
world – and connect with other people – doesn’t abruptly end when
Peace Corps volunteers pack their bags and return to the states. For many,
Rotary offers an opportunity to continue what they started . . . . .
Find a former
Peace Corps volunteer, and you may find an excellent prospective Rotary member…
