News and Notices:
Changing of the Guard:
As
out-going Skaneateles Rotary Club President Dick Kokosa
passed the gavel to John Hennessy on Thursday, July 3, club members gave Kokosa a standing ovation.
“From
the bottom of our hearts, we owe you HUGE gratitude,” Hennessy said to Kokosa, whom he credited with “getting us going as a group”
by providing lots of energy and great organization.
Hennessy
referred to a business concept about throwing a lot at the walls “so that some
of it will stick.” During Kokosa’s presidency, “a lot of things stuck,” Hennessy
said.
Kokosa said the club did “throw a lot of stuff at the wall”
this past year and that although it was impossible to “have it all stick,” a
lot of it did. “We did a lot of
good stuff,” he said, citing a big increase in membership, a major fundraiser,
and an award from the president of Rotary International.
Referring
to the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self,” Kokosa
said the underlying goal is “to make a difference in a big way. That takes people, money and a
purpose.”
He
said his year was satisfying in large part because the club did make a
difference.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER -- CLUB ASSEMBLY NIGHT:
This Thursday, July 10 will
be our first club assembly dinner following a board meeting. It is everyone’s
opportunity to comment, ask questions, make suggestions, critique and basically
say how things are headed. Tell
our board how you see the club progressing.
It’s
the board’s opportunity to really listen. It’s our responsibility to give brief
explanations of what each committee is trying to accomplish, locally, for our
community, here in Skaneateles.
If
all goes well we’ll continue with these dinner meeting assembly sessions, once
a month, the evening of each board meeting; Rotarians only. Bring
your opinions, share your ideas!

Pancake Ticket Sales Reminder: If you have not yet done so, please get your Pancake Breakfast
ticket sales money in to Sue Keefe (send to: 21 Lake Vista Drive, Skaneateles)
as soon as possible, or better yet, bring it to this week’s meeting. The
majority of your fellow Rotarians have gotten their
money in so we’re counting on you to come through also. We’re trying to close
out the books on this year’s breakfast, so please help us out.
