News and Notices:

COMBINED ASSEMBLY & BOARD NIGHT  -  MEMBERS ONLY:

For the past year, each second Thursday of the month has been board meeting night with a club assembly coming on a different evening. After speaking with several of you about this general subject a few things became apparent.

First, since board meetings are held on each month’s second Thursday, why not have club assemblies the same evening? What an opportune time to have board members and officers answer questions, review reports and plans with all of us the same night as board meetings. So starting with Thursday, July 10, we’ll have a board meeting, followed by our “club assembly” evening dinner meeting; second Thursday, each month.

Second, several have expressed a wish to have club assembly dinner business meetings private with no outside speakers or non-Rotarian guests. Usually some financial report or other private business is discussed. Also it has been pointed out to me that this would be a good time to have various committees sit together at dinner and work through their particular goals and issues.

Since most all of this is private Rotary business I’d like us to begin the practice of having club board and assembly evenings for club members and visiting Rotarians only (second Thursday each month).

Lastly, boards are responsible to act in the best interest of organizations and members they represent. Conversely, members are responsible for making sure those boards act accordingly. We all are entitled to know how our board is doing and give it constructive criticism and assessment. It’s my hope a “same night, members only” approach to club board and assembly meetings will begin an open & participative process.
