News and Notices:

Pancake Breakfast Ticket Sales - At our May 8 meeting, Lee Overstrom our ticket sales chair, distributed bundles of tickets for all Rotarians to sell prior to the Pancake Breakfast on June 15. If you didn’t receive yours, please contact Lee. The expectation as well as the club tradition is that every Rotarian will sell at least his/her allotment of $135 worth of tickets; many venues are available in the next month to accomplish this task, e.g. the Memorial Day parade, the P&C, etc. Just as a reminder, there are two main reasons underlying the importance of pre-breakfast ticket sales. First, if we have a disaster like a weather problem and have to abort the breakfast at the last minute, pre ticket sales will allow us to cover our many thousands of dollars in upfront costs mainly for perishable food. Secondly, pre sales accommodate many in the community who don’t choose to attend the breakfast but wish to support Rotary’s worthy causes. So please hit the streets and sell those tickets. It’s really a lot of fun!

Ping Pong Fever .... Students, teachers and administrators are filling the Commons at Skaneateles High School to play ping pong after school.  The tournament started last week and will continue into this week with the championship rounds.  It is sponsored by the Interact Club.  Kudos to our club’s Interact coordinators; Karen, Lori & Roberta, and to a fantastic group of dedicated and caring students.  Check out the Interact page of our website for pictures of the event.

Interact Club members met with John Dau  .... Mar 19, 2008 - During a community wide "Soup for Sudan" event at the high school.  Interact Club members presented checks totaling almost $7,000 to two Skaneateles church groups who are helping to build and support medical clinics in the Sudan.  A  majority of the money was raised by Interact Club members through sales of the T-shirts seen in this photo. Students designed (with the help of a designer) the t-shirts and have been selling them ever since a school-wide assembly in January.

Zulu Land Adult Literacy - Ward Vuillemot has returned from his journey to South Africa to review  adult literacy project in KwaNibela, rural KwaZulu-Natal, with a story of life changing success for hundreds of women and families in that region of the world.  He will share his experiences, observations and pictures with our club on the 15th of May.  You won’t want to miss this view and insights into a different world than we enjoy in our piece of this planet.
