Mr. Benson grew up and attended school in Wilson County. He received his Bachelor of Science degree and Master's degree from Middle Tennessee State University.

Since 1991, Mr. Benson's educational endeavors and experiences include teaching, coaching and serving as Assistant Principal and Athletic Director in Wilson County. He was named Principal of Walter J. Baird Middle School in May of 2006.

Mr. Benson is an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He served in Operation Desert Shield/Storm. He lives in Lebanon with his wife, Julie and son, Elliott.

Linda McDowell, Assistant Principal

Mrs. McDowell attended elementary and high school in Vanleer and Charlotte, TN. She received her Bachelor of Science degree and Master's degree from Austin Peay State University. She is married to Jimmy, and they have two children, Jim and Beth.

All of her teaching experience has been with middle school students in Clarksville and Lebanon. She has taught Reading, Language Arts, Title I, and Extend. She works with curriculum and instruction as assistant principal. She is grateful to work with the students and faculty at Walter J. Baird. She believes, "Every day is a great day at Walter J".

Randy Sampson, Assistant Principal & Athletic Director

Mr. Sampson's educational endeavors and experiences include teaching, coaching and serving in administrative positions for more than 16 years.

He received his Associate of Science degree from Cumberland University in 1983, a Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1983, and a Master of Science degree from Tennessee Tech in 2006.

Mr. Sampson and his wife of 23 years, Pam, have three children: Hope, a junior at MTSU, Luke, a senior at LHS and Levi, a first grade student at Coles Ferry Elementary.
