Tales of woe from Dantz

It all started like this....a B&W G3 has three Adaptec 2940 SCSI controller cards. Since the B&W G3 came with a card as it could be specced with SCSI drives rather than IDE. This worked fine with Retrospect under Mac OS 9. But changing to Mac OS X Server - the card is not supported by Dantz at all. It took me a while to actually look up Dantz's web site because the DLT drive and media were visible to Retrospect, it even was able to erase a tape, but when starting a backup then I got a Kernel Panic every time. I thought that it was the card, the cable, the SCSI id, and was even about to swap this 2940 for a different 2940. Then I found the words on the website that the card is not supported. Double darn or even triple darn as I have three such cards. I bet that Apple support it as they don't eliminate the B&W G3 from support even from Panther.

So what is the way out? Buy another SCSI card - that is supported by Dantz.

Does this stink? Yes
