Brussels and Belgium

My wife and I
took a short city break to Brussels in Belgium over
the last few days. Neither of us had been to
Brussels, but my wife had visited Brugge (Bruges) on
a trip from Hull to Zeebrugge. Thanks to a colleague
from work, we had a fine guide from
Time
Out. In this we selected a
Bed and Breakfast rather than a "safe" choice of a
Accor range hotel of Etap/Ibis/etc. We are very glad
we did. The B&B was wonderful - see
http://www.phileasfogg.be - Karin also has
apartments.
We arrived at Brussels airport via British Airways flight from Manchester, and made our way through to the train to catch to the stations in Brussels. The cost was a reasonable €2.50 each. It took less than 30 minutes to travel to the three main stations in Brussels - Nord/Noord, Central/Centraal and Midi/Zuid - the first thing to notice is that everything is in French and Flemish in Brussels.
I decided to get off at Centraal and walk across to Karin's B&B - not a good decision. It was a fair walk with the case and in hindsight I would have tried to understand the other public transport. (more on that later).
