ToB - Jubilee Tower

We went to
Jubilee Tower today to watch the Tour of Britain come
over the first climb of the day as they rode from
Blackpool to Liverpool. Jubilee Tower stands with a
grand view over the Fylde, Morecambe Bay and the
Lakeland Hills beyond. And though it was grey and
windy there was good view. The crowd gathered up the
climb from Quernmore up to the top. There was not
much of a cavalcade compared to the Tour de France,
but we did get a hat - courtesy of E-ON the sponsors
of the KoM (King of the Mountains) competition.
The riders came over in with a lead pack followed by a lone rider who was well supported as it was Ben Greenwood - a local rider - and then the peleton.
Every year the ToB seems to get greater and greater support. Having seen the TdF in all of its glory, the ToB has a long way to go but the growth of the crowds on the road side is encouraging. The fact the whole tour appeared on BBC2 on the following Sunday with the final stage live from London was unexpected. One of the reasons for the London finish os to practice for the TdF Prologue start next year.
I'm already thinking about a trip to London for that.
