Annoying things about the Linux box

One of the
first things I had to do so that my small study was
not full of monitors and keyboards was to sort out a
KVM. After reading around, I tried to see if I could
get the
Iogear KVMP USB switcher
GCS1714. [For those not aware a KVM is a keyboard,
video output and mouse switching device] This had the
benefits of a) having a Peripheral switch, b) being
completely USB based, and c) including the cables in
its price. The difficulty was getting a UK
distributor. This was forthcoming once
Ampliotech was found and the Iogear
arrived and was set up in no time at all. More
details about the Iogear switch elsewhere. But the
annoying thing about the Athlon Linux box is that on
start up the machine kicks up a screen whereby I can
choose which start up partition to use - it has WinXP
Pro on the other partition. I can select the
partition using the USB keyboard attached to the KVM
which is connected to the Athlon. Fine, but once the
start up of SuSE Linux has finished and the logon
panel is displayed - neither the keyboard or mouse
can be used. I have to plug in another USB mouse to
the USB port on the Athlon box directly until it
beeps and then I can remove it and use my KVM-attched
mouse and keyboard. So annoying, but I cannot find
anything that I can change in the set up to make this
go away.
