Hello. Linked to this page you can find a variety of items related to topics you may not care about, including rolegames, boardgames, card games, writing, and general crankiness.

Writing

I'm a technical writer by profession, and as I'm discovering as the years pass, by inclination (despite my strenuous and fitful protestations). It's doubtful I shall ever have any fiction published, but who knows. Accordingly, my writing page contains mostly references to useful things I've found on the 'net, and not reams of my own ill-constructed drivel (you're welcome).

Rolegames

If you don't know what rolegames are, then you won't be interested in these parts of my site. If you do know what they are, you may still not be interested.

The Wednesday Night Group
At the moment, this long-running group is playing Burning Wheel. The campaign has a supporting blog, and you can track the group's progress there.

The Thursday Night Group
With Fridays shutting down for a while (c.f.), and my name bubbling to the top of a waiting list for a group meeting in The Big City of Toronto (100km drive), I decided to try out a weekly trip to TBCoT. So far, the group has tried out the new edition of Mage and good, ol' fashioned D&D (and it looks like we'll be playing the latter for the foreseeable future, as the host is cultivating a freelance writing association with the folks at WotC).

The Friday Night Group
The Friday Night Group existed as a way for me to get some friends and family into the hobby; it had a reasonably successful run, playing some HeroQuest, Call Of Cthulhu, and Champions adventures. However, then two of the group's members decided it would be cool to take a year off from work-life and travel the world, so the group has gone on hiatus for (at least) a year.

Old Games and Campaigns
In this section you can find links to material from old games and campaigns still availble on this server.

HeroQuest
The Friday group maintained a reasonably long go with HQ in the world of Glorantha, and the Wednesday Night Group tried out the game for a single adventure. You can find my collection of general Gloranthan campaign material here.

Riddle of Steel
After reading Ron Edwards review of this game at the Forge site, I decided to purchase it and give it a go. I can't say I care for the production values, or the world background very much, but I think there's a rather nice game hidden inside. Ergo, I've decided to try it out, at least with one short adventure. For the setting, I'm using the "Mittlemarch" world introduced in Lace & Steel, but set a century or so before that game's background. You can still find the Player's Primer booklet here.

Classic Traveller Material
I ran a number of short-lived traveller games in the past few years. Here's some material for it you might find interesting or useful.

All Men Are Brothers
Contents page for a series of stories using Paul Mason's Outlaws of the Water Margin roleplaying game. This game has long since passed on, but I like Paul's game so much that I'm going to maintain the pages here for a while.

Resources
Here's a list of other various rolegaming resources I have at this site.

HERO games support material
These materials are a collection of a variety of things I've found on the web in the past. I found them sufficiently useful that I wanted to keep copies of them in one place. Some were created by me, others by others.
Character creation reference
Character sheet
Combat tally sheet
House rules
Referee quick reference

Various character sheets
Here's a collection of some PDF character sheets I find useful.
HERO 4th edition
Call of Cthulhu v5.5 : 1920s (front only)
Unknown Armies (formified)

Alarums & Excursions zine
I no longer contribute a zine for inclusion in the Alarums & Excursions APA, but they're still a fine collection of folks. The A&E APA has been around for a very, very long time, and makes quite fun reading. If you're a "serious and mature" roleplayer, then I think it's worth the cost of picking it up. The most cost efficient method is to contribute yourself, but it's still a decent bargain even if you're a lurker.
