The Great Mephisto
(Frankie Cain)
As I told you in the story on Page Two, the time I spent with Frankie and his family was definitely one of the best times of my life. They treated me like I was part of their family, and I learned so much from him while we travelled to shows in other cities. This is just a small sample of the photos I have taken of Frankie. I will continue adding more photos every few days. None of the pictures on this page have ever been seen by the public before. I planned to use them in my programs and magazines at different times, but moved away before I had the chance.

The Great Mephisto ... don't forget it!

"Take me to the Cow Palace ... slaves!" Mephisto, his servant girl and their driver, on their way to the Cow Palace in San Francisco. The Great Mephisto definitely knew how to travel in style.

The Great Mephisto always wanted to say a prayer before his matches. They fans never cooperated with him though, and made too much noise for him to concentrate. It didn't help his disposition when the fans would not respect his wishes.

I don't know why he is reading The Wrestler here, his favorite reading was ACTION Wrestling! :-) We took these photos in my mom's backyard.

The Great Mephisto claimed that his right leg was an inch shorter than his left leg, so he needed a special, extra-thick sole on it. It was suspected that he had some lead in his boot, and when he tapped his toe, his boot would "load", and one kick to the head would knock his opponent out. In this picture, Pepper Gomez was trying to cripple that leg and remove Mephisto's boot. The referee is Jack Holloway. This match took place at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium.

Shalina, the servant-girl and The Great Mephisto. He slapped her around in the ring several times when she didn't roll out his prayer rug fast enough. She usually appeared on TV with him

This was taken at the Big Time Wrestling taping on December 28, 1972 -- exactly thirty years ago! I can't believe this all happened so long ago. Servant-girl Shalina listens as Mephisto talks to Hank Renner.

The Great Mephisto was thrown outside of the ring by Pepper Gomez and knocked unconscious during this bout at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium.
