NWA World Tag Team Champions

November, 1969 to January, 1971

Ray Stevens and Pepper Gomez defeated Masa Saito and Kenji Shibuya in October, 1969. After Pepper Gomez sustained serious injuries in the San Francisco Battle Royal on November 15, 1969, Ray Stevens chose Peter Maivia to be his Tag Team partner when Pepper Gomez could not defend the title.

I took this photo at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium in 1970. Peter Maivia (right) was a very friendly guy and I liked him a lot. Ray Stevens left the territory just as I began to get to know everyone, so I never really knew got to know him very well or even talked to him other than saying hi, but he seemed like he was a very nice guy, too.
