"Well, you bring in the best guys, you give them a lot of money, and they talk about it and the biggest thing is that everyone is scared to go into it. Which is not true, but you know, and the guys go out, and say, 'Well, I don't know if I want to go out or not,' -- they're hesitant about going, because of getting hurt.

With all that hyping before, everyone thought, 'Well, geez, a guy's gonna get killed in there.' I always got somebody hurt – you know, hospital deal or whatever. Consequently it had that atmosphere of brutality and that kind of thing, that the fans love." Roy Shire

A big pin during a Sacramento Battle Royal. It looks like Paul DeMarco on the bottom, then Pepper Gomez, Ripper Collins, and Kenji Shibuya on the pile. Peter Maivia is standing in the back and Rocky Johnson looks like he is about to add Billy Graham to the pile. The referee in the ring is Larry Williams, and Frank Nocetti is on the floor.

This was the card inserted in the programs on the night of the 1973 Battle Royal. The results for that night: The Great Mephisto won the Battle Royal; Ray Stevens, Pat Patterson & Rocky Johnson beat Paul DeMarco, Great Mephisto & Luke Graham; Red Bastein & Haystacks Calhoun beat Fritz Von Goering & Kenji Shibuya; Intern beat Reno Rufuli; Mighty Igor beat Beauregard. The card changed a bit the night of the big show.
