Ray Stevens vs. Pampero Firpo
December 9, 1970 U.S. Heavyweight Championship

Pampero Firpo got his shot at Ray Stevens' NWA U.S. Heavyweight Championship in Sacramento. I don't remember if they had any rematches or not, but I think they also had a match at the Cow Palace and probably Fresno and Las Vegas, too. Larry Williams is the referee.

The Wildman is throwing the Champion into the mat. Pampero was always fun to watch and always put up a tough fight. He was the first wrestler I saw that bit his opponent, too.

It looks like Ray Stevens just punched Pampero in the gut.

Ray Stevens ended up pinning the Argentine crazyman and keeping his title belt at the end of the evening.

Ray Stevens was pretty confident he would kick Pampero's butt back to the Pampas and he finally did. Hank Renner must have owned more than one-hundred checkered sportcoats. I wish I had used color film for these pictures, but I remember this coat -- it was orange!

This photo is from an earlier show. Here Peter Maivia watches his tag team partner Ray Stevens about to whip Enforcer #1 (Clyde Steeves) into the ropes. Pete and Ray were the NWA World Tag Team Champions when this photo was taken.
