RCA Secret

Postcards for only £35!

Every year, for the past 4 years, I've attended the RCA's exhibition called RCA Secret. It used to be called Absolut Secret because it was sponsored in part by Absolut Vodka. But about 2 years ago, bowieart took it over. I like that format better, because now I can look at the postcards online before lugging myself all the way to Kensington to buy a postcard which will probably already be sold. I'm never dedicated enough to queue overnight like some people. I might have to get a cheap flight to London in November if I decide to get one, or sweet talk my brother into fetching one. I'm sure he wouldn't mind...
I like the idea of buying a piece of art that may or may not be by someone famous, it adds a sort of thrill. But then again, I've bought 3 of the exhibition's postcards solely because I like them, and for no other reason what-so-ever. I'm not an art expert and I would surely be disappointed if I bought one of the cards because I thought it might be worth something. The only thing I'm an expert on, when it comes to art, is knowing exactly what I like. And if I buy something I'm confident I like, how can I possibly be disappointed?
There's a hardware shop in Torroella which sells not only paint, tools and wallpaper paste, but also canvas and art supplies. They also do framing. And, in true one-stop-shopping fashion, they also sell paintings. Which, I can only assume, have been painted by paints bought from there, onto canvas bought from there and framed at the back of the shop. I've bought a painting there. No, it's not by anyone particularly famous and no, I won't make my millions by investing in art. But it adorns my wall at home and makes me happy. Isn't that what art is for?
And don't even get me started on people who buy vintage clothes without any intention of wearing them...
