Taken 2005 August 17.

At several points along the trail system, interpretative panels, such as this one, are provided to instruct the hiker on local history, birds, flowers, etc., enhancing the enjoyment of the surrounding area. Many of the panels, including this one, bear illustrations by Peter Rankin, a noted artist and illustrator living in Mabou Coal Mines. This panel is situated at the col where the Bear Trap (“Trap à Mhathain”) Trail and the Edge of the Valley (“Oir à Ghlinne”) Trail meet the Beyond the Mountain Trail. I am able to read the contents of this panel in the smaller version of the photograph, but only barely (a magnifying glass is very helpful to my weak eyes). The presence of these panels is just one more example of the attention to detail demonstrated by those who have built this wonderful trail system.
