OK it get ridiculous!

As I am writing this, I actually have my carry-on laptop BoomBag (In my case a 18 inch Rolling office, it could also be a backpack or a 21 Inch Boom Bag, or a 20 inch Encore) connected to my laptop in the living room/office of my hotel suite. The bag my clothes were in (24" Boom Bag) is plugged into an Apple Airport express in the bedroom. I now have stereo in the bedroom and living room of my suite, using the same two bags I would have carried anyway. I would have brought the airport express anyway to have my own wireless in the suite but this way I have wireless sound. I don't think many people have heard this kind of sound in their hotel room, even rooms none of us can afford. I'm sorry to brag, but that's ****ingcool.

Hong Kong Tradeshow

I just finished a three day trip to Hong Kong to attend a trade show. I don't know how you do this without a Boom Bag to take the edge off when you arrive. I shot a real down and dirty short video with my regular digital camera, check it out!Boom Bag Blog 2.m4v

I wish I could have shot some film when the maid came to turn down the bed, he was blown away with the sound from my bag!

Dallas, another show and another neighbor buys a bag.

Once again we played my ''Da Blooze" playlist during set up. The guy setting up at the next booth over could not believe the sound from my luggage. When I showed him all the clothes that were packed in the bags he ordered one on the spot.

A quick trip to Puerto Rico

One day at home after London and then I was off to PR. Wow, there is no easy way to get there from San Francisco. It was an all day trip and with plane delays, I was glad to finally arrive. A little music to sooth the nerves and then off to dreamland. I showed a video at my sales meeting and used the Boom Bag to provide the sound. If only it could translate too. I shot some video in my room to show what life with the Boom Bag is like. Check it out. BB Blog Movie.m4v

I love London

Every year we travel to London for a big trade show at the Excel Convention ctr. This year, we really had a great time. We set up two Boombags during set up and dazzled the Brits with tunes from our luggage. We also had a party in our room at the hotel with about 10 exhibitors from the show. Several of them ending up ordering bags by the end of the night, using the laptop in my room to go to our website. If you hear how these bags sound in a hotel room, you've got to have one.

Power Point Live!

We were a hit this year at the Power Point Live show. This is a chance to put the bags in front of one their most ardent audiences. People who do presentations love these bags because they allow them to carry their projector, laptop and sound system with microphone input in a convenient carry on sized bag. The best testament is that first customer I had at the show, was a professional that already had one bag and was buying another. He really wanted our new backpack!

The great Western road trip

Wow, it's a long way from California to Mt. Rushmore. We visited Yellowstone for 5 days and then went on to see the dead Presidents. At yellowstone, we had one rainy day while camping. I used my battery pack from Radio Shack to power my bag and we watched a movie on my laptop with Boom Bag sound, during a raging rainstorm. The tent stayed dry and we had a great time. That night we went to bed listening to Harry Potter on the bag, but fell asleep before I turned it off, so the battery was dead in the morning. The next day we moved into the Old Faithful Inn. No TV but no problem, we had tunes. We were also able to recharge the batteries for the next day of camping at Rushmore. By the way, the KOA's of the world have WIFI so you can surf in your tent, cool. We ended up entertaining a bunch of bikers with tunes from our Boom Bag at the KOA. It turns out we were there at the same time as the big Sturgis Bike week. Wild! We ended the trip with a few days in Vegas after a couple of other stops along the way. Once again, the hotel room was much more pleasant with tunes and the kids enjoyed listening to books on tape at night.

New York, New York, it's a hellava town!

I think this is year 20 for this show. We rocked the set up with a great play list my graphic department put together. Two other exhibitors ended up ordering bags after set up near us. Back at the hotel, we had a party in our room and watched Team America. What a hoot. We put the video out from my laptop into the hotel 27" TV, and had great sound from the Boom Bags. My Team America had a great time and now every dinner is filled with lines from the movie. "Do you have any idea how F******* busy I am!"

Relaxing in China on a three day trip?

A three day business trip, all the way to China. After 12 hours in the air and another couple of hours in transit on the ground, I got to my Shenzhen hotel. I immediately called down to the health center to ask for a massage. Those airline seats are a killer. The therapist came to my room and spent the first couple of minutes walking around my luggage, marveling at the sound. I don't know exactly what she was saying but her thumbs up at the end said, 'this is cool' to me. I didn't miss the couple of minutes either, it was a 2 hour massage that cost about $25 with tip. Having a little Sade on in the background helped to melt the days hardship away and made my massage much more relaxing. The therapist loved it too. I woke up the next day ready to take on my business meetings, refreshed.

Italy with the family!

I spent 3 weeks in Italy, Paris and London with my family. We had two Boom Bags along. It was great when we had a suite or two rooms because the kids could listen to books on tape to go to bed and my wife and I had music in our room. In Italy, there was no TV in most of our rooms, or if there was one, it was in Italian. We watched movies on my laptop with the Boom Bag providing sound. The kids listened to an audio tape on the Louve before our visit there, and it really helped them understand what they were seeing.

Chicago and the Blues!

Just back from a beauty trade show in Chicago. We had four bags wired in stereo for set up at the Rosemont Convention Center. We held our own with our all Chicago Blues playlist for set up, even though there were lots of stages with full sound systems jamming throughout the hall. In our booth, all you could hear was the blues! By the way, if you ever get a chance to hear Chico Banks in Chicago, do it. This guy is the most amazing blues guitar player I've ever seen! Next stop, the Travel Goods Association show in Orlando Florida. We won't have to compete with other sound there, because there is no other stereo luggage!

Airport Security (a.k.a. TSA)

I just saw the new issue of MacAddict. We got a mention in it and I am grateful. I was sorry however that they decided to make the lead line something about attracting the attention of security at the airport. I know a lot of people worry about that, and we did too when we designed the bags. We made it so you can easily unzip the lining and see the system. We even made the back of the system with Plexiglas so you can see the wiring. Guess what, I have carried one of these bags on well over 100 flights and so far TSA has yet to want to even examine the system. My staff has had them on probably 100 more flights. The bags go through security like any other bag and to the TSA screener, it just looks like you have travel speakers in your bag. The only comments I've gotten from security about the bags carrying them on over 100 flights all over the USA, Asia, Europe and Australia was "where can I get one of those bags" or something to that effect. Based on my experience, security has no problem at all with these bags! In fact I recently got 'sniffed' in security (you know they wipe your bag with a pad and run an explosive test on it). The first test read positive so they started to wipe every zipper and go through every pocket but each subsequent test came up negative. Finally, the screener had all my stuff out of the main compartment of the rolling office bag, so I said to her, they she could open the lining zipper and see the stereo if she wanted. She looked at me and said 'nah' and started putting my stuff back in the bag. Go figure. Again, I would say that you should find no difference in your treatment in security when you travel with a Boom Bag.

Long Beach and another trade show

Just back from Long Beach and another trade show. I used the new set up we used for Mac World this trip and I must say the bags sound really great. What we did was use a typical 1/8" headphone to right and left RCA cable. Then we got two female RCA to 1/8" mono cables to attach to that. This splits the headphone out of your iPod or laptop to stereo right and left and then your can take one channel to each bag. The result is great stereo separation with the rolling office on one side of your room and the suiter on the other. Awesome sound.

A couple of misconceptions we ought to clear up!

Sent out our first press release and the phones been ringing off the hook. We got a ton of press. I have noticed a couple of misconceptions we ought to clear up right away. 1. Although we placed the Rolling Office on a conference table to photograph it for that use, you don't need to have the bag on the table in a real conference situation. Of course you would put it under the table. We were just trying to photograph it, hello! 2. You can't roll through airports listening to hip hop on your boom bag, it has to be plugged in. These are really meant to give you great sound in your hotel room, we even put a caution to respect your hotel neighbors in the owners manual. A lot of people who have never used one, assumed people would be rolling along subjecting others to their music. They have missed the point. Quite simply, Boom Bags are a replacement for travel speakers. They sound way better than travel speakers, even some that cost as much as the bags, and they are great luggage too. The sound system really does not impact the packing space. So, you are getting great luggage, with the bonus of having your travel speakers built in!

Other than that, the press has been great! Thank you to all who have covered Boom Bags in the press. We need your help to put the word out. This is the future of travel in my mind. I think the idea of being able to make everywhere you go feel a little more like home, is huge. Having traveled for two years with one or another of the early prototype bags, I can tell you that the idea of traveling with silent luggage is about a horrible as the idea of sitting in a hotel room with headphones on.

MacWorld 2005

Well, after over 2 years in development and testing, we finally formally launched Boom Bags at the MacWorld show in SF. Wow, we got nothing but positive comments from folks at the show. Quite a few thought we should have won best of show, but of course, we didn't send in the paperwork to be considered. (gotta work on reading those show manuals) We sold quite a few bags at the show so now were off and running.
