Welcome.

My photographs are a journey of self-discovery. A search for identity and meaning. To uncover hidden truths and find inner peace, I stand quietly and observe. Sometimes for hours. Even days will pass until the light unexpectedly reveals a moment, a glimmer of what lies beneath.

The images are captured with color infrared, then processed to black and white.

To evoke an emotional response is paramount. The medium is a means to an end, a journey of self realization.

To accomplish my visual goals, I have embraced a niche technology - Digital Infrared. Using consumer products, the camera is modified to be sensitive exclusively to infrared wavelengths. This incapacitates the normal "seeing" process, as our eyes are not normally sensitive to this narrow band of light. Years of testing many different methods has yielded results that are easier to control, but not foolproof. Infrared photography has some interesting side effects. Foliage appears white. Skin tones are unnatural and semi-transparent. It's unsettling to see objects familiar to us appear as we've never seen them before.

Weather plays an even greater role in lighting than before. Unlike natural light, infrared wavelengths do not seem to "bounce" as visible light does. Typically, only strong direct sunlight is useful for creating images with appreciable contrast.

Prints are made from traditional chemical processes and materials such as fibre based silver gelatin and platinum / palladium.

    Enjoy!
