These images are scanned from photos in the collection at
the Merthyr Tydfil Library, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales. NOTE: The baptisms of my great great grandmother,
Elizabeth DAVID,
and her two brothers are found in this chapel's records. |
Above: The front aspect of the Ynysgau Chapel,
Merthyr Tydfil. It was located on the bank the River Taff, near the end of Castle Street. The
sign reads: YNYSGAU, built 1749, rebuilt 1863. It has since been demolished.
|
Above: The interior, graced by beautifully
handworked, highly polished wood.
|
Above: This photo was probably taken shortly
before the demolition of the chapel. Notice the precarious state of the iron bridge over the
river which provided access to the chapel. The space needed for the replacement of the bridge
contributed to the loss of the chapel. (The unfortunate lack of details in this scan is a
result of the quality of the original photo.) |
