All
original text, Fish
Tales, Rivers and Other Female Parts employs
an episodic narrative of a woman trying to cook a dish and finish
a story that has besieged her. Adding to the morass are her
unrelenting memories of her academic experience in far away places,
places she has only traveled to "via the rhythm express."
As the text snakes around the stage, its trail of unfinished
utterances and completing dance codas signifies a different type
of textuality may be warranted in the recovery of African Diaspora
female voices: a decipherment. All text is original, including the
recipe (prepared live during the course of the performance) and
are collected in Workings: New Wives Tales for a New Millennium
, a book length project which is currently under revision.
