Taiwanese Niu Chen-zer has earned an impressive reputation as an actor and television director, but his grand plans to move up to the big screen backfire spectacularly in this mockumentary comedy. Niu (starring as himself) wants to break out of television and into feature films, and he hatches an idea to make a mock documentary poking fun at Taiwan's political scene. Niu teams up with a producer who is able to raise seed money for the production, but Niu is overeager and doesn't want to wait for his partners to raise the rest of the cash. Niu invests half of the film's bankroll in the stock market, and uses the rest to wine and dine a handful of local underworld kingpins who might put up the rest of the budget. However, the stock market goes south and the gangsters don't come though with the money, putting the movie and Niu's future in serious jeopardy. Meanwhile, Niu is trying to salvage his deteriorating relationship with his girlfriend Ning Ning (Chang Chun-ning), who has arranged for them to see a couple's counselor who ends up making matters worse. Chin Fe De Yi Zi Shen Chun Zi Dao (aka What On Earth Have I Done Wrong) was enthusiastically received in its 2008 screening at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
