The second of three films linked by theme rather than by character or story which form Miike Takashi's celebrated Triad Society Trilogy (which also includes Shinjuku Triad Society and Ley Lines), Rainy Dog is a brooding, noir-style movie from Japan's number one maverick talent.
Yuuji is an outsider. As a Japanese mobster holed up in Taipei working as a hitman for a Triad boss, he is far from his roots. Added to this complicated existence is the fact that his ex-wife has just dumped a young boy - probably their child - on his doorstep. A hazardous burden in this world of sly manouvers and quick-fire shoot-outs, the boy is neglected and unloved. As Yuuji continues to do business as usual, only a final, brutal shoot-out will bring him and the boy together. This moody thriller is a tough tale of life and death on the violent streets of Taiwan that will astound and delight fans of the extraordinary Mr Takashi.
