Mary (Kiernan)
McGeehin's Obituary
McGeehan--August 27, at No. 118 West Broad street, West
Hazleton, Mary, wife of Hugh McGeehan, Sr., aged 67 years.
Funeral Tuesday at 9 a.m. Requiem Mass at St. Gabriel's
church at 10 o'clock. (page 1 notice)
After suffering intensely for two weeks with Bright's
disease and surrounded by the members of her family who
stood at the bedside, Mrs. Mary, the esteemed wife of Hugh
McGeehin, Sr., died at the family residence at West
Hazleton on Saturday morning. For the past few days her
condition was so serious that death was momentarily feared
and during Friday night she was unconscious most of the
time, but during it all she bore her suffering with
Christian fortitude and was resigned to the end.
Mrs. McGeehin, whose maiden name was Kiernan, was born in
Ireland sixty-eight years ago. Forty-seven years ago she
came to this country and lived here ever since. Besides her
husband, to whom she was united in marriage almost forty
years, she is survived by the following children: Dr. E.J.,
of McAdoo; John J., teller at the Markle Banking and Trust
Company; James, conductor on the Traction road; Hugh, Jr.,
Mrs. John Burns, Mrs. J.J. Gough and Miss Margaret.
Deceased numbered among her numerous acquaintances in this
section, where she resided the greater part of her life
time, many warm friends to whom the announcement of her
death will cause profound sorrow. She was an exemplary
lady, charitably inclined, generous and open hearted, an
active member of St. Gabriel's church and one whose
Christian qualities endeared themselves to her many
friends. The funeral will take place on Tuesday morning.
