Isaac Thrasher Sr.
Much of what we know at this
point about Isaac Thrasher Sr has been gleaned from his
pension application for service in the War of 1812.
According to his affidavit, which he made in 1860, Isaac
gave the following rough chronology of his life up to that
point:
-- He was born "two days' sail from land"
-- His family first settled near Harper's Ferry "at a place
called Bullskin" (no date)
-- The family then moved to Guilford County in North
Carolina and settled on Little Buffalo Creek (no date)
-- In October 1780, he fought in the Battle of King's
Mountain at the age of 16 [so, born ca. 1764]
-- "After the Revolution and my father's death," he moved
to Washington County in Tennessee "about 56 years ago"
[about 1804]
-- Remained in Washington County "about 12 years after that
conflict " [War of 1812] (approx. 1815 to 1827)
-- Moved to Greene County, Tennessee, where he lived "about
seven years" (approx. 1827-1834/5)
-- Moved to Hawkins County, Tennessee about 1835
In talking about the Battle of King's Mountain, Isaac said
that in that year, "the British were ravaging western
Carolina and by the advice of my grandfather I served in my
father's (William) [sic] name in Capt. Hugh Forbush's foot
company."
We do not know the name of Isaac's wife at this point, and
it is possible that he married twice, given the age of his
(apparent) wife in the 1830 census compared with his own.
Two other researchers have identified Isaac's wife as
either Ruth Barton or Rachel Hartman. We are still
researching the family to confirm the names of all his
children to make sure we have the correct family group.
Many of the names and dates of Isaac's children listed
below are from Dale Thrasher.
