Margaret Branham and
John Wright
At this point in our research,
we only have bare-bones information about this family.
Since early Clinton County marriage records no longer
exist, the link between Margaret and John to
George Branham comes from
information in his will, which identifies
Margaret as the wife of John G. Wright. The family is
enumerated in Clinton County in the 1840 census, along
with their three oldest children. By the 1850 census,
both Margaret and John had died and their children are
living in the household of their grandparents.
They were affiliated with the Clear Fork Baptist Church in
Clinton County. In January 1848, John was summoned to
report to church elders for "acting disorderly in dancing;"
he was evidently reprimanded, given a "letter of
dismishion" (which he rejected), and excluded from the
church in February 1848.
