Eugene Houlihan and
Gertrude Erickson
Eugene Francis Houlihan and
Gertrude Erickson met and married in Worcester, MA.
Gertrude's parents, Carl and Ellen Erickson, had emigrated
from Sweden to Worcester in the 19th century, Carl in 1881
and Ellen about 1871; their two children, Gertrude and Carl
Jr., were both born in Worcester, which had the largest
Swedish emigre community in New England
in the early 20th century -- many Swedes came to the
city to work in the wire and other industries. It's
possible that this is how Gene and Gertrude met, since
Gene worked at a wire factory and Gertrude's father,
Carl, was employed as a printer in a wire plant.
