OneLight Workshop - New Dates!

Greenville SC - August 14-15th Minneapolis - August 28-29th Raleigh NC - September 25-26th Atlanta - November 9-10th (The only weekend date for the year) ...There are not many holes left in my schedule for the rest of the year so I expect there to not be many more dates announced for 2007. I may have room for about 2 more dates for 2007 to be put on the books.

They are from recent OneLight Workshops (I put a lot from DC) and from jobs that have been in and out of the studio in the past 5 weeks. ...I have our first mediation date set for June 1 and I just put a deposit down on a house for a July 1 move in. Custody of our two boys is what really hangs in the balance right now. ...But by God's grace and mercy I'm making it through the day and into the next and it will all get sussed out in the end.

Wendi just graduated with a degree in architecture and wanted some portraits to commemorate this time in her life. ...Julie and John not only made my shoot the highest bid item of the auction, they also made my freakin' day because I got to make this image right here..... I've been wanting to shoot at this location for some time and today's sky was perfect for the spot.

I did not take a camera to Vegas because I simply wanted to travel light and hang out with people and network more than I wanted to shoot anything. ...A canon camera body could really not be any more different than a Nikon body that I'm used to shooting with. ...Nikon owns Canon on the controls but the image quality matched with the full frame has me hook line and sinker.

We have just finished 30 hours of networking and debauchery at the WPPI convention in Las Vegas. I can't even begin to start the shout out's too all the folks I have finally gotten to meet while out here. ...I'm now at the airport about to take the red eye back to the ATL.

So once we got the lighting set with Becka, Erik took over and handled the job while I got ready to shoot new headshots for my dear friend and creative colleague Kelle Ortiz. ...Once I feel we have captured the needed images for your standard headshot, I like to go shoot pictures for me and my client. These images won't ever become the headshot that gets sent out but it is more of what I will want to show of my work and my headshot clients walk away with something beyond the standard headshot.

I had a very small OneLight workshop today in honor of our friend Jane being in town from her native home of Western Australia. Julie was invited to come up for this workshop because she has been so helpful in trying to get a OneLight to southern Florida and the dates just never can meet up with her schedule. Christina came in again and was a trooper of a subject for us. She is always such a dream to work with.

Jane On A Plane

One problem with online relationships is that you can quickly make eFriends with folks who live on the other side of globe so it is difficult to meet them in person.... Jane is currently on a 3 or 4 week tour of the United States meeting every single person she can meet from the boards. ...She wanted the nit and grit of real life on the streets of Atlanta so that is exactly what I showed her.

From running copies at Kinkos to getting my workshop up on the Marquis! ...I have arrived safe and sound in Pittsburgh and I have just returned from the OneLight mixer and I'm checked in to the Sewickley Country Inn. Robin made sure I had THE best room at the Inn and let me tell you, it is one of the coolest hotel rooms I've ever had!

I am going to be doing a lot of traveling this year and I have never had a truly organized and simple way to travel with all of my gear. ...My light stands, umbrellas, and softboxes strap securely inside the bag leaving plenty of room for clothes and other items I don't need to carry on. The beauty of putting your larger gear in a golf case is 1) airlines usually don't charge for oversized baggage if it is a golf club case and 2) you can get a great bag for $100 compared to the $300 and $400 cases made for the photo industry. ...It's going to be a great year of growth and learning and I can't thank Erik enough for taking the plunge and leaving family and friends behind to come help me work this field I have to work.

When you spend 5 hours at an airport when the original plan was to just be here for maybe an hour, you have to begin finding things to be thankful for instead of letting the frustration set in. Tonight I am so very thankful for WiFi and power outlets. ...So, here is what I came up with for 3 portraits on a trade show floor that could not show the trade show floor. ...It's an amazingly old city and you can see it around every corner and I really like that about Philadelphia.

Hardly getting a load of clothes through the wash, I began checking gear and charging batteries for a great job I am now embarking on. Last year I had the opportunity to travel around the country creating portraits for a company that makes radiation equipment and gamma knives. ...The portraits are being made with a new machine they are introducing at a trade show so not only do I have limited time, I have to get this done on a trade show floor so that it doesn't look like a trade show floor. Those who know me well know that (1) I am a minimialist with my gear so I don't have a truckload of lights to relight the trade show floor...

Central Manhattan

So much is going on that I'm so thankful for but the blessing of work can also be the burden of work if you don't manage your time and yourself very well. ...The highlight of my day today was finding a quiet hill in Central Park and taking a seat in the leaves and watching the sailboats make their way around the pond. ...The streets are lit up as if it was one in the afternoon and there is so much to soak in visually with all of the billboards and flashy adverts, but there was this quiet hum, like white noise, and it was quite astonishing for me to stand in the middle of all of that and it be so very quiet.

I often end up going to places where I have already been or I'm flying in for a job and flying out as soon as it is done so there is precious little time to enjoy the destination. ...I'll give an update about gear and services that really caught my attention once I get back to Atlanta and I have some time to sort through the 48 pounds of sales sheets and brochures that I picked up today. Today was also a day of meeting up with some folks I have not seen in a while or meeting folks I have never met in real life yet we have eKnown each other for some time due to forums and such.
