Central Manhattan

I spent most of my day in central Manhattan along 5th Ave. The beauty of exploring a city on your own is that you can meander in any direction you please. Despite some pretty cool temperatures and miles of walking, I am having a very peaceful time here in the city. It has been a long, long, long time since I have been able to take a few days off all by myself and escape the unending barrage of shooting and post production. I was nearing burn out just before this trip. So much is going on that I'm so thankful for but the blessing of work can also be the burden of work if you don't manage your time and yourself very well.
Today I hit Union Square, Central Park, Grand Central Station, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Grand Central Station, Columbus Circle, The Apple Store, 5th Ave. Shops, and a bit of Soho. I wanted to get all of this out of the way today so I could avoid the NYC Marathon tomorrow. I think China Town is on the destination list for tomorrow as well as the WTC site.
The highlight of my day today was finding a quiet hill in Central Park and taking a seat in the leaves and watching the sailboats make their way around the pond.
I really wish Caleb was here with me. He would have had a blast with the sailboats. On the flip side, he would have been bored to tears with all of the stops I made along the way.
Times Square has given me two different experiences this week. I went out there late on Wednesday night when there were very few people out and about. It was very surreal because it was very quiet. The streets are lit up as if it was one in the afternoon and there is so much to soak in visually with all of the billboards and flashy adverts, but there was this quiet hum, like white noise, and it was quite astonishing for me to stand in the middle of all of that and it be so very quiet. I figured I needed to experience it on a weekend night when the streets would be packed and frankly, I was underwhelmed. So much so, I never took my camera out of my bag.
Grand Central Station on the other hand was amazing. They could call it Amazing Central Station. I'm so thankful for such a chill day after the hectic stress that I go through planning and conducting a OneLight. I won't even go into how much of a PITA it was carrying half of my gear back to Brooklyn at 2am. I have to get the rest of it tomorrow. I left the lighter bags for the second trip.
