On the way to Barstow. This might be Wrightwood.

Terrible Herbst!? In Barstow.

A train carrying tractors.

Goffs, California: near-deserted resting place of historic desert artifacts.

Jason's first Geocache find, just outside Goffs!

This GPS receiver led us right to the geocache, and later to the property.
Inside: a cockatiel book! And the "Froggie" travel bug.
An old car, part of the open-air museum at Goffs.

Hop on in for a ride...
What dreams were there once in these desolate climes?
These are the remains of Lanfair, a ghost town that was once apparently a large sheepherding and ranching community.
This is the closest map location to the property.
A few crumbling foundations.. and lots of modern trash.
Bullshit Boulevard. This isolated house is where the power ended. After this it was a lonng way on dirt roads.
The almost non-existent surveyor's "road" we took for about 2 miles.
On the surveyor's road we got within 1.3 miles of the property's center. We got out to hike the rest.
deadwood
one of the only two signs of human presence we saw out after the road ran out (the other was a rusted coffee can). this was in an old wash.
The terrain alternated between thick creosote bushes and joshua trees, and open areas like this.
a flock of quails taking off nearby. there is life in the desert.
an unfocused picture of a huge jackass rabbit
bobcat tracks
weird pod plant of some sort
barrel cactus! the only ones we saw
some sort of red underbrush. notice the shadows getting long...
After a hike of over an hour, we finally made it to the coordinates of the center of the property. A large washed-out river bed greeted us.
This is the dead center of the property.. according to the satellites.
A beautiful view of joshua trees and of some apparently strip-mined mountains in the distance.
view in another direction
