risusGM Application - What Is It?

stick figureThe risusGM Application is a stand-alone java application. This application acts as a database program specifically for use with Risus: The Anything RPG inspired by Hollis McCray's Risus Character Generator (Windows program) (for those of us who don't do Windows).

RisusGM specifically stores information regarding: campaigns, clichés, genres, dice, and characters.

Where Can I Get It?

You can download the risusGM application right here (risusGM.zip - 108k). This file is in .zip format which allows Windows users to use a utility such as WinZip to decompress it and Mac users to use the standard Stuffit Expander (if you need a decompression utility, check them out at download.com). The file includes the necessary jar files (the actual Java program), image files, base XML files for the database, and an instruction file.

What do I need to run this?

You will need to a Java runtime environment capable of running Java swing applications. If you need to download a Java run time for your system, check out http://www.java.com for details (note: This application was developed using the Java j2sdk1.4.0. While I tried to include everything needed to run this application, you may experience problems with an older version of Java).

This application also requires that you have your monitor set to at least 800x600 resolution (however, it does look nicer if you have your monitor set to 1024x768 or higher).

How Do I Use This?

The download file includes a text file that covers the following (so it won't be covered here):

  1. Installing the application
  2. Understanding the menus
  3. Creating a Campaign
  4. Creating cliches
  5. Creating characters
  6. Exporting a character
  7. Advanced notes
  8. Comments
