Thursday Walkabout

A bus tour through the city and Adam goes a guest appearance on BBC 6 Music.

I met Tom at Picadilly where we took one of the cheesy sightseeing buses for some... well... sightseeing. I won't bother you with the boring details. It's the same stuff as you can see in any book about London.

We did stop at the Tate Modern where we had lunch at the Member's Lounge. It's on sixth floor with a great view across the Thames, directly in front of St Paul's Cathedral.

Tom went on ahead to the BBC and wandered around a bit more.

London's traffic, as noted earlier, is bad. Very bad. The centre of Westminster now has a Congestion Charge - a five pound toll/tax if you cross into an area that has been particularly bad for some time now. It does seem to have eased things a little, but it's still easier to get around on foot and by subway.

Oh, and here's a tip for Canadians visiting London. Canada House, which is immediately opposite Trafalgar Square on the west side, has a free Internet thing. You can go in, open up a Web browser, and surf, all while being helped by someone with a normal accent. Great for checking email when you're otherwise cut off from civilisation.

I caught up with Tom at BBC Broadcast House just before showtime and sat in while he did his programme - The Evening Sequence.

He had me on briefly as a guest, with a few comments about the Meltdown Festival. The shows are made available on the Web after they've been digitised - I'll post a link to the show I was on as soon as I know what it is.

In the meantime, if you're interested, this is the 6 Music Web site . They've been using my photos from the Festival on their gallery page (click here and follow the "Photo Gallery" link in the top right corner.)

More stuff from today in part two of It's The Little Things.
