Garrison Style binder

Here is a version of the Garrison binder for cane flyrods that eliminates the things I did not like about the original

The basic mechanism. Drag levers control binding cord tension. A piece of shaped steel strip replaces the cradles. How the binding cord straddles the steel strip. How the "cradle" is shaped. Art Port's clever variation. Both pulleys turn clockwise Art's cradle & thread feed A tabletop version with 4" pulleys. Note 1/4" plywood extensions 1/4" pin used as cradle, it's free to rotate, further reducing drag. The pin sits in bronze bushings, thread feed swings out of the way.
