Following months of preparation, Apple's World Wide Developer Conference came and went last week like a whirlwind, as such events tend to do. I gave my talk on performance techniques Friday afternoon, and though it got off to a momentarily rocky start (surprisingly enough, in the one part I was certain I had gotten down word for word in rehearsal -- go figure!), I think it all worked out OK in the end (a bit long[-winded] perhaps ... but there was a lot of material to cover). In any event, I'm very grateful for the positive feedback I received, and hope I've learned a thing or two that will come in handy should I find myself undertaking such an endeavor again in the future. :-) I must say I feel no small amount of relief now at simply having survived the process, especially given that recent events had left me at less than my best this past month... Time at last for a much-needed break!
My biggest regret is that I missed a number of interesting sessions, in part due to having some last-minute work left to do on my own. Luckily I've had the chance to talk with the bright engineers who are responsible for many of the great new technologies that are in the works for Tiger, and my regret is mainly having missed the chance to enjoy the presentations I know they worked so hard on, and be there to lend my share of the applause. :-) Fortunately I did get to talk at least briefly with a number of developer acquaintances from previous years and other projects, which is not as much of a given as one might expect considering the ever-moving sea of attendees with lots of people to talk to and a constant need to be going somewhere else... It's a real pleasure — and reinvigorating to me as an engineer — to hear all the encouraging feedback (and largely well-founded enhancement requests :-) regarding the technology I have the pleasure and privilege of working on. Thanks one and all for a great week!
