Google is the Shit!

Okay so today in my browsing about frenzy of ADD I came across many things. An article in the Star Tribune online today about Google Maps (which I guess is now called Google Local), which then brought me to Google Mobile, which then has brought me to Google Groups to which brought me to Google Calendar which is now out.
Now a few weeks ago a friend of mine had sent me an invite to Google Mail, after I asked him to. I decided I would give Google Mail a try because all of the hip kids were using it. Honestly I wanted to check it out in hopes of having another email address and just to see what it was like. Well it is a nice program for online email, leagues ahead of Yahoo Mail or Hotmail. But what is it's use for me? I use Mail.app, which is the Mail program that comes with the Mac, and we have a .Mac subscription. Well I have emailed a few items with Gmail (as it is referred to in the biz), and it is nice. Now that Google Calendar is out there and I have discovered these Google Mash-ups, as well I recently found Google Finance. I might become a Google man....only time will tell.

Damn you Apple!!! Oh ok not really.

So I am salivating at the mouth lately. First Apple decides to come out with some cool products before the launch of Tiger (the next upgrade for OS X), which were affordable for me to grab (iShuffle 1 GB). Then they announce when Tiger was going to be released and it was nail-biting until then. Unfortunately we did not get Tiger, because right now we just can't afford the luxury. Then I heard that they upgraded their Power Mac line, which doesn't really affect me, but still I thought that is really cool. Then just yesterday they upgrade the new iMac G5...with 512 MB RAM standard, along with Bluetooth 2.0 standard and Airport Extreme card (WiFi built-in). All of that cool stuff standard and the pricing stayed about the same!!! With everything looking all full of flair I am just plain old jealous, but at least I have something to look forward to. Also for those that don't know I really really want an iBook, just a 12 inch screen will do...(I could go into more tech aspects but I will spare you). So I have been pining for one for about 6 months, at least, and the wife just nods her head and says, "Yes, dear".

Well I have started to notice times when having a laptop would be a good thing, or times that we would have needed one for a task. As today for example, she has to do a presentation and they might not have a computer she can use. So I said, "If we had an iBook, you could take that with you,"

Where she just gave me the same response of, "Yes, dear".

So I have decided to start tracking every time that this occurs so that we can look later on and see if getting a laptop is mainly a need/want/or both.

On another subject we went to a WW meeting last night, because tonight the wife is going to be gone giving a presentation, (where she could use an iBook). So we had to find another night and time to go. So I am down 4 lb.'s (I'll let her tell you how she is doing), for a total of 14.4 lb.'s. I think the big reason I have lost a lot is because these past two weeks I have been working out about everyday for a class in school., also eating right, can't forget that.

Anyone have Tiger now? Share in the comment section how it is, let me live off of your joy and pain until I can get it for myself.

Revision soon!

Alright so I have been looking into a little redesign of the site so I promise by the end of this week it will be done. Things to look for are a new look, improved content (well I hope you think it is), maybe a try at podcasting....? Among other things.

Apples to Pears

On Saturday I bought iLife '05 online. So now we are waiting for it to be delivered, estimated date of delivery Feb. 10th. That is Thursday and I should be at school all day so hopefully it actually gets delivered. I have some issues with FedEx and delivering to our place recently. So I guess we will see. I am kinda nervous because I have read (just a little) about how I might have to delete iPhoto '04 and make sure that I have my pictures saved elsewhere to have a clean install. I don't want to have to go through all of that but I also don't want to lose all of our pictures, which right now are at about 5300. So it would suck big time to lose them all. Well on the other hand I have been meaning to burn all of our photo's to CD/DVD just in case of a hard-drive crash, so maybe this is the motivation that I need. Because I know that I cannot just wait around to install iLife '05 if it is sitting in front of me, so this will move me to burn the photo's by Thursday....except I have school to contend with....hmmmm. I guess I will figure something out, I am just pumped for the new upgrades!!!! Now if only Tiger would get released ASAP (and I had the money) I would be glued to the computer for a week.
Oh and I called the Apple store in the MOA to find out where we are at on the list of iPod Shuffle buyers (because they don't have any in stock, we are put on a waiting list, and when ours comes in they call us). We are at around number thirty-seven, they said. Along with that the gentleman I talked with said that they get about 40 in per shipment, and they haven't gotten a shipment in in quite awhile, so.....?

Podcasting baby!!!!

I have just discovered podcasting (really good article on it) and have been quite intrigued by it tonight. Listening to the Adam Curry show and the Dawn and Drew show. Actually I didn't just discover it I had heard about it and was a bit interested in it but never looked into it until now. I must say that I am surprised at it, it is more entrenched than I originally thought and it rocks!!! I would love to do it myself but ya know...
Also I am hyped that my extra 256MB of RAM which makes our computer's total RAM at 512 is functioning well and no glitches, not that I was expecting any. Right now I currently have 8 programs open (along with my browser has 11 pages open) and functioning (checked out via Expose without trouble I am sure that I could have a lot more open and running. Speaking of that I used to have this gentleman's photos in my Daily Zeitgeist, but took him off because I felt like my photo's weren't getting enough attention. On to the point he has a photo that is linked here of this gentleman's computer where he had all of these programs open and functioning, IT IS AWESOME CHECK IT OUT!! Sorry to yell at ya.

Exciting forefronts on the horizon...?

So Monday school starts up for me which is cool, but also on Monday MacWorld Expo starts up. On Tuesday when Steve Jobs gives his Keynote Address I will be at school. I love to watch these things, this is when Apple either introduces a new product or software. Fortunately or unfortunately, however you take it, I have never been able to watch them live, as will happen again this time. So I am happy that dotmac.info will have coverage, because when I get home from class I am firing up my quicktime movie player and watching the Keynote, while trying all day to avoid technology news so I don't spoil any new things that Apple comes out with.
Now onto a different note, I have been reading and surfing the web all week to occupy my time. So I am almost done with the final Dark Tower book by Stephen King (well page 531 with eight hundred and forty-some pages, is almost done ;P). So I am pretty pumped, I hope that when school starts I will still have time to leisure read, because there are so many books I want to read now. Here is a brief list of the books that I want to read off the top of my head: "I am Charlotte Simmons" by Tom Wolfe;
"Love, Poverty, and War:Journals and Essays" by Christopher Hitchens; "Tower of Babble:How the United Nations Has Fueled Global Chaos" by Dore Gold; and finally another book that I would like to read when I have a chance is "Toast: The Story of a Boy's Hunger" by Nigel Slater. Anyways that is it I just wanted to share the books that I really really want to read when I have a chance, now hopefully the library has them so I don't have to spend a gizzlion dollars on buying them all.

I will be updating them periodically, if a site gets to boring or I find something else that interests me, so check back. These blogs are the ones that I check out everyday!!! Ok so now the Goddess wants to go shopping and i still haven't showered...what is this crap? It is New Year's Day you are supposed to chill. Oh well hopefully it won't be long because then I get to add more here, and you all just cannot hold your breath long enough for that, can you?

New Years?

I have beat "GoldenEye: Rogue Agent" for the Gamecube today. Of course that doesn't mean that I am going to stop playing it, I would like to improve my score on each of the levels, also it is a multiplayer game. Now if only my good friend David lived near me I could school him some more on first-person shooters. So I have seen a lot of people putting up a year end blog, I however am not going to do that. Or post my New Year's resolutions. What I will do, next week is post some goals that I have and then periodically inform you how I am doing on them. What is everyone doing to celebrate the ringing in of the New Year? I don't ever do much, I remember when the new millennium passed I was out taking a walk outside, and I got back home to not even notice that it had passed midnight. So I am curious to hear what you are doing for the ringing in, or what you did do? So please comment away!
