Biking to Work |
That's much better. |
Today was even nicer than yesterday, and the winds only hit about 8 MPH. I must have been tired this morning, because my AM average was below 15 MPH. But by the time I'd actually brought it up! I guess I should try going leisurely more often.
The best part of this ride was that a car passed me as I was coming up to 62 both on the way to work and the way home! That's my only stoplight on the trip, and if there's no cars I have to go push the pedestrian button, 'cause it'll never notice me. Two cars tripped it for me today - score!

Biking to Work |
Oh, the wind! |
It actually wasn't that bad, I think I was just a little tired tonight. The ride home seemed a whole lot harder than it should have. But I made it! And that's about all that was interesting.
I'm going to try and bike again tomorrow, because it's going to get beastly hot next week. That, and I'm going to stop biking in another week because Rebecca's going to make us a baby soon! |

Biking to Work |
Tired today. |
Not from biking, but from needing more sleep. This was a Monday ride in, which hasn't even been an option for the past 6 weeks or so because our baby class was on Monday nights, and I had to get home reasonably quickly so we could get to that. But anyway, Mondays I'm usually tired because the weekend throws us all out of whack, sleep-wise. Oh well. If only I'd biked just a little bit faster ... 14.99 MPH is so close to 15!
But now that that's done, I can take advantage of a cooler day before the heat hits in the middle of this week! Maybe on Thursday or Friday I can ride again - they're forecasting drier air by then. |

Biking to Work |
It's finally cooled off a bit. |
| Nice 60° mornings, and afternoon rides home in the 70's - talk about perfect weather! Just a bit of wind, but with the cooler weather it's not as arduous. |

Biking to Work |
The last ride of June. |
And the last ride the month, I'm guessing. It's off to Duluth this coming weekend, and between that and the heat, it'll be a little while before I get another riding day in.
The most exciting part of the day - zipping down the hill going to work. It's always fun to break 30 MPH. |

Still with the wind! |
| It's not impossible to get around, but it'd be nice if the wind wouldn't whip up and switch directions when it's time to come home. Blast! |

Biking to Work |
It's getting hot. |
| Not so much in the morning, but that ride home gets rough when going up Scenic Heights. And of course, it doesn't help that there's also a 20-ish MPH headwind. Curse you, breezy atmosphere! |

Biking to Work |
Another try. |
This second attempt worked better than a couple of days ago. It was a nice day for both the ride out and the ride home (nice weather makes the speed go up).
Now I've got a new tube in my pannier again, so I'll be set if something else decides to blow out. Since I can change a tube in less than 10 minutes, whereas I have to wait about half an hour for Rebecca to get home and then come get me, that'd definitely be the fast way to deal with such things! |

Biking to Work |
The first attempt this year! |
My first biking-to-work trip started out quite well. This year, I'm leaving my bike in a prop room in the photo studio, which has a couple of benefits over the water-heater room of last year.
- I don't have to walk the bike down a hallway.
- It doesn't smell like water-softener salt and natural gas (not much, but a little).
- It's a lot bigger, and not as hot.
- It's right by the door on the side, and I have a direct exit from the room (through 2 doors).
Of course, all was not rosy this day. On the ride home, I got about 3 blocks away from work when the valve stem on my front tire blew out! At first I thought someone threw a firecracker at me (although I was riding through an industrial area). Then I heard the hissing, and figured out what was going on. Of course, the one thing I didn't have was a new tube - and with this kind of damage, I couldn't just patch it.
I ended up calling Rebecca, who came and rescued me. I left the bike there, and packed it up in the back of my car the following day. |
