This sheet is for students who are currently No Belts. Students at this level will graduate/test for their White Belt. Be sure to access the "BEGINNER VIDEOS" for some of the techniques below
REQUIREMENT KICKING TECHNIQUES:
1) Front snap kick (two styles, ball of foot and instep of foot)
2) Roundhouse kick (instep of foot)
3) In–to–out kick (side of foot)
4) Rising kick (for stretching)
5) Ax kick (stricking version of rising kick)
REQUIREMENT HAND TECHNIQUES:
1) Single middle punch (back hand)
2) Double middle punch (jab front hand then power with back hand)
REQUIREMENT BLOCKS/STANCES:
1) Front stance down block then middle punch
2) Front stance high block then high punch
3) Horse back riding stance (often practiced with punches)
OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS AT THIS BELT:
1) Students should understand how to stand at attention
2) Should understand when and where to bow
3) Students should always answer instructors with a “yes sir/maam”
KOREAN TERMINOLOGY TO LEARN:
1) Dojang – work out area
2) Dobok – uniform
3) Sa bum neem – senior instructor
4) Hana – dool – set – net – dauset – yauset – ilgop – yadaull – ahop – yaul – Korean numbers 1-10
GENERAL QUESTIONS AND KNOWLEDGE:
1) What type of martial arts do you practice? Taekwondo
2) What does Taekwondo mean? Feet – hands – mind
3) Why do we practice Taekwondo? To develop a strong mind – a strong body – and self defense techniques
4) Why do we bow? To show appreciation and mutual respect
5) When do we bow? We bow to the flags when entering the dojang, when class begins and ends, to the grand master or master instructor, to instructors, to higher ranking belts, and to other students. The bow is used anytime as a greeting and display of mutual respect
