I was shopping for some songs at the iTunes Music store a few weeks ago, and I stumbled upon something that was kind of new for me. It's probably been a feature forever, but I was too dense to see it. It's their "Music of the World" section.
Usually found about halfway down the iTunes Browser, this area features music from a select country every week. I happened to have discovered this when the music of China was on display, and believe it or not, after sampling one or two songs from the playlist, actually bought something from there! In fact, they are probably amongst the most played songs on my iPod. The following week featured Australia, this week it's Japan.
I think it's a great idea to get a sampling of songs from all around the world. Fascinating to hear the similarities and differences in the way songs are performed and produced.
The songs I picked from China are "Zhu Zhi Ge (Song of Pigs)", and "Liang Ge Mo Sheng Nan Zi" (Two Strangers). The first is a playful, childlike pop hymn that is just a fun track. No idea why I like it so much, except it just sounded so cute I had to get it! The other is a lovely romantic pop ballad that sounds like it could have come from Les Miz or something.
Nice to have yet another way of connecting to the world via the World Wide Web
